The Rice Purity Test is a 100-question self-assessment originally developed by students at Rice University in Houston, Texas. It was designed as an icebreaker for college freshmen, encouraging openness and bonding by reflecting on personal experiences in a lighthearted, nonjudgmental way. Over time, the test became widely popular across high schools and colleges, especially on social media platforms.
The test consists of yes-or-no questions covering a wide range of life experiences. It starts with innocent actions like holding hands, going on a date, or staying up past midnight. As the test continues, the questions become more personal and mature, including topics such as alcohol and drug use, romantic and sexual activity, cheating, lying, and even encounters with the law. For each “yes” answer, a point is deducted from a starting score of 100. A higher score suggests fewer life experiences—or more “purity”—while a lower score reflects a greater variety of experiences, often associated with curiosity, exploration, or risk-taking.
