Both have their perks, but the hop on hop off Lisbon bus tours are more flexible and cover a broader area. While walking tours are great for deep dives into local history, the buses allow you to cover more ground, especially if you're only in Lisbon for a day or two. For an efficient Lisbon Portugal city tour, the bus is ideal for hitting all major sights quickly.

Honestly, both are great — it just depends on your travel style and how much time you have.
If you’re short on time or want to see the city without too much walking (Lisbon has a lot of hills), the Hop-On Hop-Off bus is super convenient. It hits all the main sights like Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, and Praça do Comércio, and lets you explore at your own pace. Plus, you get audio commentary which gives you a decent overview of the city’s history while you ride.
On the other hand, guided walking tours are better if you want a deeper, more local experience. I did a walking tour through Alfama and learned way more than I expected — the guide shared personal stories, hidden spots, and things you’d totally miss on your own.
If you’re still deciding, I’d suggest checking out this page — it lists a bunch of top-rated things to do in Lisbon, including both tours and self-guided ideas: things to do in Lisbon Personally, I liked doing both — bus on day one to get oriented, then a walking tour the next day to dig deeper into specific neighbourhoods.
