The good news is, the entire process has been made more convenient with the online NBI appointment system. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through it.
What is NBI Clearance?
NBI Clearance is a government-issued certificate that verifies you have no criminal record in the Philippines. It's issued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and is required for various purposes such as:
Local employment
Visa application
Adoption
Firearm license
School enrollment
Business registration
Step 1: NBI Online Registration
Before anything else, create an account on the official NBI Clearance website. Here’s how:
Visit clearance.nbi.gov.ph.
Fill out the registration form with your personal details.
Use a valid email address — this will be your login username.
Set a secure password.
If you already have an account, simply log in.
Step 2: Schedule Your NBI Appointment
Once logged in, follow these steps:
Fill out your profile completely.
Choose your preferred NBI branch, date, and time for your NBI appointment.
Select your purpose (e.g., employment, travel, etc.).
Note: Walk-in applications are no longer accepted, so booking an appointment is mandatory.
Step 3: Payment Options
After scheduling your appointment, you'll be given a reference number and several payment options, such as:
GCash
Bayad Center
7-Eleven
Online banking
Pay the required fee (usually around PHP 130–150) and save your receipt.
Step 4: Visit the NBI Branch
On your appointment day, bring:
1 valid government-issued ID
Printed or digital copy of your reference number or payment receipt
At the branch, you'll undergo:

Biometrics (fingerprint scanning)
Signature input
Step 5: NBI Clearance Release
If there are no hits (i.e., no criminal record match), your clearance will be released within the same day. If there’s a hit, you might have to wait for 5–10 working days for further verification.
