Malegra 25 mg, which contains sildenafil (the same active ingredient in Viagra), is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). However, sildenafil, including the 25 mg dose, is sometimes prescribed for other medical conditions as well. Here are some of the potential uses beyond ED: 1. Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) Sildenafil is also prescribed under the brand name Revatio to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition where the blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs is abnormally high. In this case, sildenafil works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels in the lungs, making it easier for the heart to pump blood through them. The typical dose for PAH is higher than for ED, usually in the range of 20 mg three times a day, but it depends on the patient's condition. 2. Raynaud’s Phenomenon (Off-label use) Raynaud's phenomenon is a condition where the blood vessels, usually in the fingers and toes, constrict excessively in response to cold or stress. Some studies have shown that sildenafil can help relax these blood vessels, improving blood flow and reducing the frequency or severity of Raynaud's attacks. Malegra 25 mg is an off-label use, meaning it's not FDA-approved for this purpose, but it's sometimes prescribed by doctors. 3. Other Off-label Uses There have been some off-label uses of sildenafil, such as for: Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (to help in conditions where low oxygen levels are present). Priapism treatment (in rare cases, sildenafil may be used to manage prolonged, painful erections caused by priapism). Endothelial dysfunction in various conditions (sildenafil might improve blood vessel function in conditions that affect circulation).
