Fildena is a brand of medication that contains sildenafil citrate as its active ingredient. Sildenafil citrate is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. ED is a condition characterized by the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse.
Sildenafil citrate works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, which helps to achieve and maintain an erection. It does this by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which is responsible for the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum of the penis. Increased levels of cGMP relax the smooth muscles of the blood vessels in the penis, allowing for increased blood flow and erection.
In addition to treating ED, sildenafil citrate may also be used to treat other medical conditions such as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but Fildena is primarily marketed and prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
