One of the most adaptable garden plants is fennel seeds, or Foeniculum vulgare, which may be used as a vegetable, herb, or spice. This widespread herb, which comes from the Mediterranean, is used in Indian, Greek, and European cooking. With leaves that are 4 to 10 cm long and 30 to 40 little yellow blooms at the top, a fennel plant may reach a maximum length of 3 to 5 feet. Fennel leaves are often employed as a flavoring herb in Indian cuisine, both savory and sweet, and its base has a crisp feel. Due to its somewhat sweet taste akin to licorice and its many health benefits—which include stronger bones, reduced blood pressure, heart disease prevention, immune system stimulation, and enhanced metabolism—fennel is in great demand. Phosphorus, zinc, copper, iron, manganese, potassium, beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, as well as vitamins A, C, B6, E, and K, are all present in fennel.
